Chores at Home

On my previous blog, I mentioned that I made a responsibility chart for my son where he will earn some smileys on his regular daily duties and earn some little money on some other tasks that he can do. Folding of clothes is one of the tasks to earn some small amount of money.

Last 2020, the amount that he can get for helping in hanging or folding clothes is P1.00. This year, we raised it to P2.00. He was really excited that he’s earning and at the same time helping us, too.

With the help of the responsibility chart, my son was reminded of his duties. Currently, my son is happily helping in some of the household chores without being reminded or without looking at the chart.

Setting up or cleaning the table, putting the dirty dishes on the sink, putting the dirty clothes in the laundry container and cleaning up his own mess are some of the things he normally do on his own.

Occasionally, he will help in hanging / folding clothes, vacuuming and washing dishes. If our son saw my husband and me doing some chores, at times, he would ask if he can help, too. If he knows that we are having fun while doing chores, he will join also. Doing chores all together as a family is fun and will encourage one another to help.

There are times that kids may forget things. There are times that they will make a mistake while doing the chores. That’s fine. Just remind them gently without us becoming monster parents. There are still kids. They need to learn and be guided. We are teaching them good values and not enslaving them.

Instill good values while they’re still young and when they grow, they will bring it with them.

Serve With Kindness.

“Do everything without grumbling or arguing.”

Philippians 2:14 (NIV)
