Let’s Make It Work

I’m looking forward to this new journey of ours but also anxious about a lot of things. I’m worried if I can handle my temper when teaching my son, or if my son will take me seriously as his teacher. I was extremely challenged hence, I started preparing early.

I begun to think about the learning space, learning materials and learning resources. I wanted my child to feel the vibes of school and be excited about this homeschooling journey.

First is the learning space. Me and my husband made a lot of cleaning and decluttering at home. We cleared some areas to have a learning space for our child. We did some rearranging of furniture as well. Since we lacked some tables and storages at home, online shopping became my friend during the stay at home days. But of course with a lot of budgeting and consideration in mind. We always make sure that we only buy what we really need and we always search for the best buys.

I bought a 3-Tier Utility Storage Trolley which cost P1,199.00 with 2 additional multifunctional hanging bucket at P99.00 each at Lazada. This trolley is for the art materials and some books for easy access and keeping. Since it comes with wheels, it is easy to push it anywhere.

I ordered a ladder table in FB Marketplace. This was recommended to me by a family member. The table was custom fit just right for a small space like ours. The table costs P3,000.00. It is sturdy, beautiful and made of steel and wood.

Since we don’t have a printer, I started looking online, too. I asked around for the cost and efficient printer suitable for our homeschooling. I believe that this will be of great help. So it became a must. I bought Epson EcoTank L3150 Printer with wifi for P8,615.00 at Lazada.

For the learning materials, we bought the arts and coloring materials, papers, notebooks, etc. in the bookstores whenever we’re out for grocery.

For the learning resources, I was able to buy an e-learning library collection for a very cheap price which I can use for reference, stories, activities, etc… These are downloadable and printable. I also gathered all the new books and unfinished books that my son have. I made them visible so that we can use it, too. Then, I compiled a list of free online learning resources as supplements for my classes. I also borrowed used grade 1 books for Science, MAPEH and Computer from my sister.

Why I am compiling some learning resources? Because two or three of the subjects in our curriculum doesn’t have physical books. It’s going to be e-learning. I personally preferred physical books and materials. Also, the arrival of his books will be delayed for weeks due to the current situation in the country.

Furthermore, I made myself part of some learning groups in FB to gain more knowledge and get some ideas, too.

Some extra stuff I bought online were 4 different colored plain shirts to be used as his school uniform from Monday to Thursday. I made Friday a wash day. With this, it is easier for us to get ready in the morning and this also adds up to the excitement of getting ready for class.

Moreover, I started making schedule for all of us. I made a class schedule wherein it is somehow similar to what the traditional school is doing. So by the time that we are ready to move to big school, he will be familiar on the routines and can easily blend with.

I also made a Responsibility and Chore Chart which I got from the Coupons are Great website. This involves money that will help kids become financial literate. You may visit their page and you can get free printable charts.

Last but not the least are the decorations. These are important factors to make the learning space inviting especially for my son because he loves surprises like this.

Check some pictures below. Simple but effective.
