Our Homeschooling Journey Has Begun

First Day of Homeschooling Journey

So this is it… Woke up early even though we slept late in setting up all the stuff just to hide our surprise from our son.

While my son was still asleep, I already prepared the food for breakfast and lunch. Then made myself ready.

When I woke up my son, hooray to what he saw. He was speechless and happy. With this, we were extremely glad that he got excited in this new set up.

Today’s activity was brief. It was nice and slow. No pressure after a long stay at home. I just want him to feel the excitement of this new journey. Though we’ve been doing a lot of activities during this stay at home regulation, but this time around, schooling will take more of his time than playing.

Our first day was all about orientation. As first timers, I wanted to clearly introduce and explain to him what homeschooling is all about.

Nights before, I’ve been doing the contents of my orientation. Fast forward, I was able to made a 4-page paper for our orientation day alone.

What does it contain?

I. Opening Prayer

II. Welcome Remarks

III. Introduction About Homeschooling

IV. Mission and Goal

V. Learning Space

VI. Subjects

VII. Learning Tools

VIII. Grading Component

IX. Schedule- daily routines, class schedules, responsibility chart

X. Homeschool Rules

XI. Question and Answer

XII. Closing Prayer

I discussed and explained every details to our child so that we can do things together on the same phasing. Following what I learned from my Basic Essential Training for Parent Facilitator from our homeschool provider. By the way, our homeschool provider is accredited by the Department of Education.

I made a prayer for him to recite. A student’s prayer for a new school year. Also, to make our first day interesting and fun we did some activity in the homeschool rules discussion.

Overall, our first day was a blast! Our boy was excited to use his own learning space and materials (though we will be using the whole house as his learning space). He was amazed about the decors and arrangement. What is pleasing to us as parents was he is looking forward to this homeschooling journey!

To God be the glory!

but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
