Surviving Q1

I thought everything will be smoothly fine but half way through the quarter, there are ups and downs. Patience decreasing, beast mode on, and at times, giving up mindset.

I’m not perfect. Negativity comes along when there’s frustration. But with God’s grace and through the gentle reminder of my son and hubby, I was able to conquer it. Maybe it was just the ‘first-timer issue’ of an all-around homemaker and homeschooler.

Teaching your own child is very challenging. Your patience is very much tested. As parent, you want to be as cool as possible – to be the coolest teacher ever! You want to be the best teacher ever in the eyes of your child. But the struggle is real. As a parent who teaches your child, you want them to excel in everything and make sure the best for them. We can’t hide that at times, we are visited by pressure so there goes the conflict. As a teacher, you want them to learn and understand the lesson. You want them to succeed.

To be teacher mommy, you want everything. You want to understand your child’s behaviour, as a son and as a student. You want to guide them in everything they do. You want to help them learn in the easiest way possible. You want them to understand failure, hardship, perseverance, success, etc… You want them to be wise. You want to direct them to the right path so they can bring it when they are older. Yeah, it’s exhausting but very much fulfilling.

I really never thought of homeschooling my son until this pandemic happens. The series of events that happened in our lives this year clearly leads us to this direction. So we trusted God and believe that He has a better plan for me and my family.

This journey of homeschooling thought me a lot of things in life, especially in character development. It makes me closer to God and learn more how to trust and love Him with all my heart, soul and mind. I will continue to seek guidance from Him as we continue this journey. As Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I am strong, optimistic and patient.

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)
