Duck, Cover and Hold

We participated on the First Quarter Online Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill by the Philippine Civil Defense last 11th March 2021.

When I said to my son that we are going to do an online earthquake drill, he showed me right away the duck, cover and hold. Happy to know that he still remembers what he learned in his previous school (ISYC) when he was in Kindergarten.

Attending to this online earthquake drill is a very good refresher course for all of us. It’s always nice to be reminded again and again on what to do in case there’s an emergency especially now that the Taal Volcano is at alert level 2.

As they mentioned about the GO BAG (survival bag), I immediately took our GO BAG and inspect it. Luckily, I checked it because the water bottled that I put in there was already expired. They said, check the GO BAG every 3 months. The GO BAG must contain items that you need for survival for at least 3 days.

What’s inside our GO BAG?

  • whistle
  • flashlight
  • first aid kit
  • MacGyver knife
  • rope
  • extra clothes
  • blanket
  • canned goods
  • biscuits
  • water
  • facemasks
  • faceshield
  • sanitizer
  • money
  • contact number of important persons

You may add important documents, power banks, batteries, etc… into your GO BAG.

Remember that during an earthquake, do not panic. Do not run outside immediately. Instead, DUCK, take COVER under a sturdy table and HOLD until the shaking stops.

After the shaking stops, take the fastest and safest way out of the house or building.

Have a family emergency plan in case there’s an earthquake, a fire, flood, etc… Better to be ready than sorry.

And PRAY. 🙂

“Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” Matthew 24:42 (ESV)
